Post-jam update #4

It’s been a long while, but we’re finally here with a new update and this is the largest one on record! In short we’ve added a new power up and a whole new world! We’ve also done quite a bit behind-the-scenes making it so that we’re getting quite ready to release Up to no GOOB on Steam as well, but there’s still a lot of polish to do. Anyway, let’s get into patch notes.

Patchnotes

Tweaks

  • Chickens now respawn when they die
    • Instead of having 3 chickens in a level there is now only 1 which respawns whenever it dies
  • You will not be shown the checkpoint sign over the cave when you set checkpoint frequency to every level
  • Enemies no longer attack before you move one a level
    • We felt like the game felt a lot better if you get some time to look over the level before all hell breaks lose
  • Enemies now attack on a static timer
    • Additionally some enemies have their timers offset which makes it so that you are under more constant attack instead of attacks coming in waves
  • Added invincibility frames
    • When you’ve taken a hit, but not died you now become invincible for a short time to give you a chance to recover

Rework

  • Revorked the troll power up
    • The troll power up has been reworked so that when you take a hit you can move around to regain the extra health given by the power up
    • The troll has also been moved over to the new world

New content

  • New power up
    • We’ve added a crab power up which makes you go faster horizontally, but also a little slower vertically
    • This power up replaces the troll power up in the Village (first world)
  • New world
    • Created the Wild West which has 6 levels, introduces 3 new enemies
  • Cowboy
    • New enemy which will kill you if you are within it’s line-of-sight
    • When telegraphing his attack he will draw a line towards you, after a few seconds he will shoot and kill you if you aren’t hidden behind a wall
  • Cactus
    • New enemy which will expand and hurt you when it’s reached full size
  • Horse
    • New enemy which will constantly run in a circle and hurt you if it runs over you

I saw that you're working a steam release. Is there a place to leave feedback? So I don't double up if some of the issues are already known.

Never seen a inverse tower defence before which is pretty cool.

We’re happy that you like the concept, it means a lot to us! As for the feedback you can leave it at our community discord server that you can find on the game’s main page (or here for your convenience), or you can leave it here on this page if you prefer.

Here’s a non-exhaustive list of the things we’re aware of and working on:

  • The cowboy’s attack on a semi-random timer that makes getting around them without getting hit really difficult
    • We’ve already set them on a set timer that allows you to much more easily anticipate their attack
  • The cowboy’s attack telegraph is difficult to see with the straight, red line
    • We’re planning a fix for this by making it a cone that narrows down as the cowboy gets closer to shooting
  • The horse’s path can be difficult to see without studying it
    • We’re planning on adding some hoof marks on the horse’s path to make it more visible
  • Objects that feel like they should block attacks don’t
    • We’re planning on making all objects in the level block attacks
  • The Village feels too easy
    • We’re planning on tweaking attack timers so that more things attack around the same time to increase the difficulty a little bit
  • The game feels too easy in general
    • We’re planning on adding optional challenge levels that cater to more skilled players and achievement hunters
  • The troll power up doesn’t indicate that you can regain a hitpoint
    • We’re currently reworking how power ups work behind the scenes. This will allow us to make it so that you can see the troll eat a bowl of porridge in order to regain the lost hitpoint

Game

+Never seen this done before, fun and has some fun levels.

+Potential to make horizontally longer levels.

-Archer’s arrows aren’t rotated towards the player.

-No  goblin sign should be there on the first level.

Sound

+I like the Goblin’s Running sound.

-The sound should finish instead of cutting as soon as the input is released.

-The goblin’s Wa Wu running sound is too different from the other 2 running sounds.

-Having the rest of the sounds be silly reduces the comedic value of the goblin’s running sound.

-Goblin’s grab chicken sound is louder than the running sounds. Step back from the MIC so it doesn’t clip, Audacity is a free resource that can help keep your volumes balanced.

Option Screen

-No sound.

-Scrolling takes forever.

-Option Screen when opened is the same colour as everything else and makes it hard to read.

-Everything snaps to being open or closed instead of having any transition.

Looking forward to new updates.
